Light of the World

coffeJohn 1: 4-5

In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

This passage stopped me from going further this morning. It’s singing to my heart. We all have darkness from time to time. Our outward appearances may display otherwise, but I am certain we all have moments of uncertainty, despair, depression and what ever else we want to call it. In reality our light is being covered.

This passage assures us that the darkness will not overcome our light. A covered light is not an extinguished light, it’s just covered. Turn your darkness toward Jesus and come back into the light.

The good news of God’s grace… Act 20:24

Forgiveness by Grace through faith.  It’s the only way!
Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered. Psalm 108:6
What an awesome prayer to remember. We do not bring people to Jesus. We are His right hand and He will help us, but again we must begin the conversation.
-From the Study Portion of my devotion – David prayed not only for rescue, but for Victory! Look for ways God can use your distress as an opportunity to show His mighty power.

I don’t have any real distress in my life, and what I do have is completely and totally self-inflicted. I mean if I could just get out of my own head and let God wrap His arms around me I would probably be fine. Unfortunately my stubborn nature wants to do everything by myself. And I can’t believe I just said that! Meri always wants to do everything by herself and I always say, let me help you. And that is what God is trying to say too. Are you listening? Are you hearing what God wants you to hear?  Are you letting Him help you on your journey? Let’s make a promise to let God help us on our journey. Let’s open our hearts to Him today.

The Grand Design

Where-Did-Jesus-Go-After-He-Died (2)

For the joy that was set before Him he endured the cross. Hebrews 12:2b

He knows! There are approximately 7 billion people on our planet. Not only that there are 100’s of billions of stars in our galaxy. God knows everyone by name. He knows their origin, their history and best of all their future.

He has it all laid out in a nice neat plan. Think about that for a minute and let it soak in. 7 billion people, 100’s of billions of stars and everything else he created on this earth that God is responsible for…

And here we are complaining about how busy we are… Or at least I do. Kids, house, husband, work, I get overwhelmed so easily. But God never does.

It’s good for us to suffer a little bit on our way to our joy. Usually we are so excited for the next big thing to happen, so we can post it to Facebook for everyone to see, but we often forget about the journey it took to get there.

The cross is a perfect reminder of the journey of Jesus. He knew His death would bring victory. He suffered the most gruesome, painful and humiliating end, so we could live on, free from sin and knowing a love that only a savior could provide.

The journey to the cross was one of pain and shame, but not for Jesus. He knew what was going to happen, its pain and shame for us until we admit His sacrifice was for us!

Be set free, let it go, let it rise! It’s the reason God built that cross and let His son hang, beaten and bloody for all to see. But it’s also the reason for the miraculous resurrection

All that pain, all that blood, all that shame washed away when Jesus showed His life wasn’t His own.

What will happen when we let go of this life and let God take over? He knows as I stated earlier. He has a plan. Let God’s grand design be the rays of sun for someone who is lost today.

Let’s Pray:
Thank you Jesus for this life that I am living today. I am a new person in you. My ray of sun was dimmed by cloud of doubt and shame until I let you in. Let the light of each lady here tonight shine for their family, their co-workers, their friends and every person that walks along side of them. Thank you for each of them lord. In your holy name, Amen!

Coffee with Jesus…

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness. Col 2:6-7

I was about to read my devotional and a prayer struck me. So I prayed, I read the verse and then an aroma wafted by my nose. I realized I hadn’t taken a sip of my coffee yet and voilà I was having coffee with Jesus!

The prayers of the day are many today, as everyday I guess, but today there is illness and spirit that need to be healed. I pray that the Lord will hear my prayer and bring peace to not only me, but those others who are also praying and needed answers.

Bless us this day oh Lord with peace and love for one another as we should love you! Fill our hearts with happiness, kindness, compassion and the zeal of David! Empty our hearts of loneliness, sickness, hatred and complaining. Thank you Lord for not forgetting about me. I am only one and you love me…

How great thou art! .

Love Letters to God

writing picture

I felt really led through this whole writing.  I know it was God, I knew it when I was writing it.  It’s the first time I can really say that and it feels good.  I made it through delivering the whole thing to the ladies at WM’s tonight.  Even at the start I was trying to figure out if I could cut anything and still deliver the message, that’s how nervous I was, but I did it!  I hope you enjoy it.

Love letters to God by KarLynn Erickson

I was reviewing 1 Corinthians 13 when I came up with this.

I think it’s important to write love letters.  They may be outdated with all of the technology we have today and social media where everyone knows instantly whom you love.  But a hand written letter or note is so very personal and really touching.  The first part of this is a piece of a love letter for God.

You have promised me refuge.  You have promised me safety.  You have promised me shelter.  You have promised me love.  From the depth of my soul I feel your presence, yet my earthly body still fears loneliness and darkness and death.

Lord, oh Lord my strength in weakness.  My mind wonders playing in darkness.  Even when I know unhappiness and uncertainty will knock upon my door.  Your door lies open as an example to human kind.  Come in you command.  Walking by I disobey.

Patience for me and my unruliness must seem like a full time job to you.  I pray, I fall, I pray, I fall and again and so forth.  Your plan is laid out.  Your will be done, if only I would cooperate.  My small existence must have big meaning or you wouldn’t keep following me around like you do.  This pesky conscience of mine.  It used to be easier to get away with ignoring your will, but now it’s nearly impossible to hide.

I am beginning to see my place.  Piece by piece I see a puzzle coming together to make the life you wish me to live, possible.  Stumble as I do, you are there to catch me every time.  I end up in your arms and usually in tears wondering and asking Father why did I…  Your simple reply to this lowly earthly creature,  “My child, my child I love you and will not forsake you.”  I love you to Lord and try my best to do so every day and all day.

I love you, Be Mine, Hug me these are all on the conversation hearts popular this time of year.  But we should be making our own for God.  Forgive me, I’m sorry, Praise you, and Thank you.

It’s so easy to take His words for granted.  If we keep asking for forgiveness He will keep coming to our rescue, right?  We have to mean the words that come out of our mouth.  We can’t just spew out the rehearsed prayer we have said a thousand times and call it good.  What He says means something, what we say should mean something as well.

Talk to God as if he is your best friend and the love of your life.  We shouldn’t treat Him like a person far away on a pedastle  untouchable and unreachable until Sunday.  He is all around us and we should be walking with Him and talking to Him all day long.  That’s when the stuff we repent about happens you know.  During the day when we are so busy taking care of kids, or working, or running errands life gets in our way and we stumble.  Or at least I do and sometimes in a big way.  Just try to pull out in front of me when I am coming up to your crossing!!!  That really erks me when I have to slam on my breaks because you can’t wait your turn to pull out after me.  Ok so maybe I was going a little fast in the first place and maybe you actually had plenty of time to get out safely, but in my fit of rage it seemed like you blocked me from getting to my destination first and I know my shaking fist means nothing because you couldn’t see it, but it made me feel better.  Hmmm…  How many commandments did I break in that 2 minute period?  If we are not constantly recognizing that God is all around us all the time, we will forget He is there and forget how to act.  Love your neighbor, love your family, love your friends, love yourself – God certainly does.  He loves us for who he made us to become and so far He is not giving up on me.  I really encourage you to read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13. Let it soak in.  Let God’s love wash over you and fill you with all that you need.

One last note:  I heard on a radio broadcast lately that we should really reflect on our journey to where we are now in God’s kingdom.  Who are the people around us that we can thank and pray for that helped us get to where we are.  We didn’t do it by ourselves.  God puts people into our lives and those people pray for us.  In turn we need to pray for them and thank God for his ultimate plan and their part in that plan.  As I look around this room I see many people who have helped me on my journey.  We have such an awesome support system within our Church family.  I don’t know where I would be right now without that love and support.  So thank you, I love you and know that you are truly in my prayers.

Stranded at home!

Help! I am stuck at home today and I must say I don’t like it at all.  I accomplished quite a bit, but I don’t like feeling like I can’t go anywhere. I have been watching old episodes of Alaska The Last Frontier and I can’t imagine how those people can make 9 months of winter without going crazy. Some of them appear to be crazy, but I would literally lose my mind if I lived there.

I am so grateful for a warm house tonight! -26 windchill right now. I hope that all are safe if you must go out!

My view is pretty dark right now. We are pretty sheltered in the trees so when the clouds parted today there was a beautiful blue sky, but looking toward the road was a nasty mess.

The sunrise over the Jackpines this morning was something not to be missed.  Golden rays trickled through the thicket of trees tickling the snow in the fields.  Blue sky peaked out from behind billowy white clouds and a the slightest bit of snow fell to make the scene truly magical.

The view from my seat today is pretty spectacular.

And on a side note the weatherman on ABC this morning was peddling some nonsense about a cold front for the east.  34 degrees and they were going to be chilly!  Hmmmmm…. They should send those weather people up here in the winter to really experience what it’s like.  34 degrees was it last week?  And I didn’t wear my jacket out the door after work!  Can’t wait for the chilly 34 degrees here.  In the mean time 20 degrees is perfect for sledding at the Malung Hill!  Here we come!

Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  (13) Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.  (14) I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

I was just thinking about this, because sometimes I feel like if I read the right book or if I finally find that perfect verse I will have this huge epiphany and all will be right in m y world. But that is not how Jesus wants us to gain access into his Kingdom.  It has to be sought after and worked for or it doesn’t mean anything to us.  Like the child with to many toys, the ones he just opened for Christmas are tossed aside when the next one comes.

Our salvation and entrance into the kingdom of heaven is not going to be served to us on a silver platter because we know our bible verses.  Paul says he is straining toward what is ahead, not smooth sailing toward what is ahead.  I think we need to be excited about what is ahead, but not expect it’s going to be easily obtained.

Our goals should be aligned with Paul’s, are yours?  I know I have a bad habit of worrying about what will happen next instead of anticipating what God has in store for me next.  Trust is what God and Jesus are all about.  If you don’t have faith you don’t have anything.  My prayer for you today is faith in what God has in store for you life.

The view from here today is spectacular.  The sun is just beginning to rise over the Beltrami State Forest.  The Jackpines are standing at attention while a pink and orange hue dances around the tips of their tops.

Have a blessed day!
